Presented by Rusty Heckaman, Research Room Supervisor, Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives

Though not commonly thought of for genealogical research, court records can be an invaluable source for gaining insight into your family’s history. Beyond the names that are included that help establish familial relationships, is context often missing from other sources. The proceedings of a case can illustrate the nature of a person’s life beyond the simple facts perhaps already discovered. Learn how to navigate the Court Records of Kentucky’s past to make your own discoveries. Entertaining examples that illustrate the value of the records will be used to demonstrate methods of searching. Particular attention will be paid to the County and Circuit Courts, delving into their differences, the records they’ve generated over time, and what it means to your genealogical research.
Event Type(s): Genealogy & Family History, Summer Reading Program
